The ALDE Congress in Stockholm was an excellent forum, gathering 800 liberals from across Europe and beyond to reaffirm our joint commitment to liberal values. The three day conference created valuable debates on the key issues facing the continent and the world such as, climate, security and diversity.
Kira Rudik, MP from Ukraine moderated the corporate roundtable, designed to gather a diverse range of industry voices to inform EU decision makers on current state of cybersecurity and how we can forge effective policies to tackle threats. Francesco Cappelletti, Senior Policy Officer at ELF joined the roundtable, laying out the specific threats associated with new technologies such as AI, 5G & 6G, Quantum Computing and Satellites.
During the congress we hosted the ELF Fringe event, Innovating for a Stronger EU, with the focus on EU’s finding the existing strengths and opportunities for innovation on two key sectors, healthcare and energy security. The first panel session discussed the ways in which Europe must use new technologies for the energy transition and to ensure security. Joining the discussion, we welcomed Jan-Christoph Oetjen, MEP Renew Europe Group, Olav Aamlid Syversen, VP at Equinor, Georges-Louis Bouchez, President of MR Belgium and Alain Mathuren, Communications Director, Fuels Europe, moderated by Dr Antonios Nestoras, Deputy Executive Director, ELF.
The second panel session, focused on digital innovation for healthcare. Andreas Gluck, MEP, Renew Europe Group, Francesco Buonarroti, VP at Johnson & Johnson, Alexandra Tamas, Director of Public Affairs, EFPIA and Anca Toma, Executive Director, European Patients Forum formed the panel moderated by Francesco Cappelletti, Senior Policy Officer. Among the main outcomes, the panel emphasised the importance of data collection in creating the right healthcare policies.
During the congress the Rainbow Platform and the Alliance of Her hosted the Circles of Diversity Expertise reception. The session gathered 180 representatives to stir up the discussion on diversity topics such as hate speech and fighting for inclusion in politics. ELF Executive Director Alva Finn moderated the table on building partnerships.
