Roundtable: The impact of digitalisation on democratic processes
In order to better understand the complex changes that digitalisation brings to democratic practices, experts in different fields that are affected by those changes must come together to paint a whole image. An expert’s physical meeting in the roundtable format is the best choice for getting the desired results in this matter.
The discussions will be focused on two synoptic topics: “Combating manipulation and disinformation in a virtual world dominated by social media, big data and AI tools” and “Citizen’s rights and democratic representation under the influence of digital technologies”. Each of these topics represents two facets of the complex digital democracy process, involving the same time, individuals, communities, civic and political actors, and local and central government. Thinking about the pivotal value of individual rights and freedoms and considering the fundamental role of democracy in ruling our societies, the event will conclude its works under the paramount topic “Information society – a new era of democracy”.
