About the event

Small and Medium Enterprises are the economical backbone of liberal democratic societies. Without SMEs, free market societies are not possible. The combination of all these factors makes societies grow in free, prosperous, and sustainable ways.

The best way of mutual development is by establishing strong trade agreements, that foster SMEs, giving them all possibilities to trade and cooperate beyond borders. However, we still see many obstacles and discrepancies in SME investments between Europe and Africa.

What should the long-term vision be for Investments on Equal Footing in Europe and Africa? And what short term actions with quick wins can already be taken? Facilitating investments, clear rules and a level playing field for EU-MENA investments in the SME sector should be a priority for institutions. This way national authorities will be able to enable, in a well-defined framework, key reforms to promote competition and invest in skilled human capital.
