The Board of Directors is mandated by the General Assembly to lead the Association.
The current Board was elected by the Autumn 2022 General Assembly in Brussels for a two year mandate.
President
Jan-Christoph Oetjen is a German Liberal Member of the European Parliament from Rotenburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. He was re-elected for the 10th term of the European Parliament (2024 – 2029). He is a member of the TRAN Committee and TRAN Coordinator for the Renew Europe Group. He is an substitute member of the LIBE and DROI committees. He has been a member of the German liberal party Free Democrat Party (FDP) since 1995.
First Vice President
Dr. Lucia Yar, PhD is a Slovak politician and Member of the European Parliament. As an MEP, she serves as Vice-Chair of BUDG, and is a member of FEMM, AFET, and LIBE. Between 2015 and 2017, she served as an advisor to the State Secretary at the Slovak Ministry of Defence. She also held the role of editor-in-chief at Euractiv Slovakia for several years. In June 2024, she was elected to the European Parliament, joining the Liberal Renew Europe Group.
Second Vice President
Marco Mariani is the founding partner of Catte Mariani Law Firm. Currently he is Lecturer at the Universities of Milan “Politecnico”, Milan “Statale”, Florence, Bolzano, Modena e Reggio Emilia, Sassari. Marco currently serves as President of the “Administrative and Regulatory Law” Commission at UIA-International Association of Lawyers (Paris) and as European Affairs Director at the Luigi Einaudi Foundation (Rome).
Treasurer
Milosz Hodun, PhD, is the president of the Projekt: Polska Foundation. He has developed and implemeted a number of capacity building projects for European liberal start-up parties and civil society organisations. He is also an advisor and member of the campaign team of the Polish liberal party Nowoczesna and has worked in political campaigns of the party and its key candidates, including the party leader, minister Adam Szłapka. He has been associated with the Reykjavik University School of Law.
Board Member
Antoaneta Asenova-Bihlmayer has worked previously as an in-house attorney and a legislative adviser at the Bulgarian National Assembly, and since 2014 is working with the MRF delegation at the European Parliament. Antoaneta has served as President of the European Liberal Youth – LYMEC (2020-2022). She is an Alumna of the Alliance of Her 2023 Master Class for female political leadership and has served as Member of the Board of the European Liberal Forum since September 2022.

Mats Löfström is a Finnish MP serving his third term, representing the constituency of the Åland Islands. In the Finnish Parliament he’s a member of the EU affairs committee, Transport and Communications committee and constitutional law committee and first vice chair of his parliamentary group. Löfström is chairman for the International Committee in the Swedish People’s Party and a member of the Financial Advisory Committee in the ALDE Party.

Brigitte van den Berg is Member of the European Parliament for D66, within the Renew Europe Group. As an MEP, Van den Berg is dedicated to closing the gap between the European and local levels, advocating for a social green transition, peace, human rights, and a more interconnected Europe. She began her political journey in the Dutch town of Beverwijk in 2010. During her tenure as alderman, she focused on making the economy more sustainable.

Jeannette is a Dutch member of the European Parliament in the Renew Europe group since 2024. She has long been involved in the international liberal movement as a former vice-president of ELDR and as an international trainer for the VVD (Dutch People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy). In the Netherlands, she was vice-president of the VVD and worked with TeldersStichting (the VVD’s liberal think-tank) and Haya van Someren Stichting (HvS).

Dr Violetta Pashutina is the Executive Director of Land of Freedom Foundation. A Ukrainian, she has more than a decade of experience in law, policy and political advocacy. When Russia invaded Ukraine, Violetta focused on international political advocacy as the Head of Cabinet for the Vice-President of the ALDE party. Previously, she worked at Kyiv City Council as the Secretary General of the Ukrainian liberal party Golos. Violetta holds a PhD in law.
