Andreas I. Pottakis is the Greek Ombudsman. He leads a national equality body that acts as guardian of the people’s rights, with a special emphasis on monitoring and promoting the implementation of the principle of equal treatment, the rights of the child and the rights of vulnerable groups.
He speaks about the common challenges to human rights and specifics of a country like Greece. We talk about the effects of the recession on Greek society, the price of Covid-19 to youth and education system, elderly and pension system, gender rights and equal treatment. We also discuss the issue of population movement, rising numbers of asylum seekers, level of EU support and the effects of these flows on Greek society.
