Panel discussion hosted during the international conference Multiple Challenges for Transatlantic Partnerships
2024 presents a crucial moment for the EU-US relationship. Both face internal vulnerabilities with rising right-wing extremism in the EU and diverse political landscapes across member states. Externally, a shifting global power balance, pressing international crises, and economic uncertainties demand a united front from the EU and the US.
By working together, the EU and the US can ensure their continued leadership in promoting a more stable, democratic, and prosperous world. This requires not just addressing differences but finding common ground and proactively shaping the future together. What steps should the European Union take to counter the rising influence of extremist right-wing parties? How might differences in the political orientations of EU member states affect their ability to effectively respond to international crises? How should the EU find a balance between protecting the principles of liberal democracy and respecting the diversity of political views of its member states?
